The winter spring

Spring started off pretty hot (30C+), and then last week we had a cold snap; we haven't had on at this time of year since the late 2010s. Saturday was rainy and cold, the cold-in-your-bones sort of cold. Sunday, thankfully, was cold but not wet, a good thing as I was doing a 15K race. On Saturday, 53 parkruns around the country were cancelled, the highest ever!

Conditions countrywide were cold too. In fact, the N3 freeway, the biggest inter-city freeway in the country, was closed at Van Reenen's Pass because of snow, and 1800 cars were trapped in the snow. Locals and farmers were helping the people in cars out. 

The weather is hot again, but I hear it may be cooler over the weekend.

Nutso weather. We had a cold spell about a week before you did. Well, calling it a "cold spell" is trivialising it, as we also had five days of torrential rain and major flooding in several parts of the country. But temperatures here must have dropped below the 3C that I observed on the furnace's temperature readout because my gem squash plants froze.

In mid-September.

And I've heard talk about a La Niña event that could spell an extremely cold winter in the northern hemisphere. I guess we stock up on firewood and wait and see what happens...

I thought we were heading into El Nino..?

We have serious worries here about running out of water this summer.

Apparently it's La Niña this time, from what I'm reading. Haven't looked into it too closely, though, and won't have time to try until next week some time...

What season do you prefer? I know you hate mosquitoes I think that's what you said before lol. I like summer, anywhere!

I love winter! I can dress up to stay warm if I need, and it's not usually terribly cold, and it's dry. Spring comes with huge temperature fluctuations, making it hard to dress appropriately, and summer is hot and has mosquitoes and flies. There is rain occasionally, at least, which is nice (like yesterday, we had our first summer thunderstorms).
