Anyway, he was sent a copy of the German translation of The Mercenary and it quickly became clear that the translator had re-written the book, removing all the social commentary and leaving in the bloody boot-on-the-neck parts.
Pournelle catches up to the translator at a WorldCon party. The translator says "You are a fascist, your book is fascist, it should read like a fascist story."
