In our day, it sounded a lot better, but that's because the government masked the results for 80% of the population. I actually strongly suspect that the education results now, compared to the entire population in the 1980s and earlier, are better. However, it's not good enough; the new government has been in power for two decades, and not enough has been done to get school-leavers qualified at something that can serve them.
