Wits Parkrun

On Saturday I ran the Inaugural Wiuts Parkrun at Wits University. It loops its way around West Campus, and there is an absolute monster of a hill. Bruce Fordyce was there, as usual, and since Wits was his alma mater, he wore his red doctoral robes for the introduction. 

We passed the Science Stadium and the Wargames Society room.

On Sunday it was pouring with rain, so I went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I hated it. There's no ventilation, so the sweat poured off me. Afterwards, the treadmill looked like it had been in the rain!

You might as well have just gone running in the rain! Face it, you were never going to come home dry either way, were you? :D

PS: I'm slightly jealous of the ridiculously huge number of parkruns you've got over there. We don't have a single one in the entire country!

You should start one there. :) It's enthusiasts who start them all. We're up to about 160 now.

Heh. I think that would be a lot more effort, organisation-wise, than I'd be prepared to put in! Also, we're pretty rural here and while there's a nice park in Gmunden that would be suitable (ish; definitely be a double or even triple-lap course to add up to 5k), I don't think we have the population density around here to attract enough of a crowd. They'd probably need to start in one of the larger cities to gain traction and then spread from there.

I think it is quite a lot of admin; I really admire the people who volunteer to do stuff like that.
