An Auckland accountant was sacked for sending "confrontational" emails with words in red, in bold and in capital letters. I have to admit, I've encountered these people who fill their emails with capital letters and red text, and part of me thinks she deserves it.

I've been using capitals for emphasis since 1977, and italics and boldface on fora where they were possible (i.e., where it wasn't plaintext.

Someone who tried to fire me for that would discover what "confrontational" *REALLY* looks like.

Yes, but they don't bother me. If that's how they like to write, that's fine. By itself that isn't confrontational. I wouldn't recommend using that approach in a scholarly presentation, though. And as someone else points out the company only gave one example, which doesn't mean much.

I STARTED OUT WRITING ON DECWRITERS THAT HAD NO LOWER CASE AND LIMITED PUNCTUATION. SO I AM USED TO READING STUFF THAT IS REALLY HARD TO READ

And srsly, whut about LOLspeak???

I am all for good netiquette, but they only used one example, which sounds a bit dodgy from the company side.

I imagine there's more to this than what is in the public eye..
