The pictures I've seen of the tsunami and earthquake in Japan are horrifying. You can't easily get an idea of the scale though, watching footage shot from a helicopter.

This picture, though, puts it in perspective:

I wasn't looking at it during the day as I was too busy. And I have no television. But the stuff I've seen online tonight is absolutely horrifying, and my heart goes out to all those affected. It must be bloody frightening going through something like this :(

That's an amazingly horrifying picture. I wonder if that's the same village that I watched being wiped out by the tsunami? We had tsunami alerts here on the Washington Coast this morning but the waves were only a foot or so high.

I was reminded how scary the ( Seattle Quake (http://ang-o.livejournal.com/11871.html) ) of ten years ago felt to us. But wow, looking at what's going on in Japan, the Seattle Quake was a stroll in the park.

Utterly terrifying. I hope the tsunami dies down before it reaches any other countries.

Good grief. That should qualify for some sort of Darwin Award...

We were watching at work in between actual work and searching for info on what was going on. The footage and stats coming back were horrifying BUT as you said, they have built and prepared for this.

I may snag this picture for when I manage to put my scattered thoughts on this down somewhere later.

The footage from within the office buildings during the earthquake was awesome to see. As well as the fact that the buildings weren't just collapsing as normally expected.

An 8.9 quake is not to be laughed at. They still better than many other countries have.
