In GuildWars, I'd been saving up to buy my necromancer Vexyra Malagate a suit of Obsidian (Fissure of Woe) elite armour, which costs around 600K. I had around 510K saved up when I realised that despite the prestige associated with some of the most expensive armour in the game, I wasn't really that keen on it.

So instead, I went out and bought two new sets of elite armour for less than 150K together, and I have a whole heap of gold left over that I'm using in the pursuit of the skill-capping titles.

Here are the two suits of armour I got:

The Elite Sunspear Armour. This armour is functional yet gorgeous. I can just imagine Kate Beckinsale wearing armour like that.

And the Elite Dwarven armour. Yeah, the dwarves love all that lacy stuff. For sure.

I think some of the reasons I love GuildWars (apart from the stunning scenery) are the beautiful characters, and all the lovely armour they can get.

Wow. I didn't realize the Elite Sunspear was that nice. Oddly enough, I'm quite happy with my Ranger's basic Krytan, although I'm also fond of the Fur-lined (both sets), Krytan (both sets), and Elite Druid (Male character).

Ah screw it, I agree. I just like the armor, period! If I spend any more time listing the ones I like, I'll never make it out to dinner....

*nod* Normally, yes. Although I also enjoy the mesmer, necromancer, and paragon. The mesmer is a bit difficult to get used to, though, since (in my experience) you have to rely upon your heroes/henchmen so very often on account of not having that many direct damage skills. Admittedly, I consider them one of the most dangerous classes in the game, regardless, but it is so very dependent upon your skill set by comparison to what enemy you're facing. Have Empathy when you're facing a spell-slinger? You're screwed. Have it while facing a warrior? *grins* Good times.

I play a mesmer quite a lot (partly because she's my favourite clothes horse and has quite a few sets of pretty armour); it's one of my two favourite classes to play! I agree about it being difficult to get used to: you really need to know what kind of emenies you're going to be coming up against, although I usually play an interrupt-heavy skillbar rather than a physical-shutdown bar.

I play my mesmer when I'm on my own, but my beloved paragon when I'm playing with others: the party support is just amazingly useful.

Heeheehee, yes, the mesmers are quite pretty aren't they?

I would try an interrupt skill bar, but I'm not quite fast enough on the battle-awareness to recognize and respond to enemy skills in time to make the best use of those skills. That and although the Heroes are a damn sight better than the henchmen, they're still all quite a pain in the arse without the occasional micromanaging, so I find myself relying more upon skills that cause DoT in response to physical or skill based events.

*nods* I've never really played in much of a party. I've only ever been able to get one friend at a time, and I don't tend to group well with random strangers since I take a very methodical approach to the game. Namely, I clear out and explore every area (spending up to an hour or two doing so), try to make sure I optimize my loot grabbing (personally, I'm not a ninja looter), so I spend another 15-20 minutes optimizing my inventory, and I tend to be fond of taking time to buff and debuff following a loose set of skills before battle. But all of that takes time, and I find people are usually more in a rush just to get to the next area or launch into battle, meaning they've already gotten swarmed by a handful of enemies while my last buff is still locking into place. *shrugs* I guess I just don't have a play style that meshes well with others.

Lately I've been running my mesmer as a damage dealer with Assassin's Promise as the elite (the returned energy and skill recharge benefits make me like it better than any of the mesmer elites, except in specific circumstances) and Phantom Pain/Clumsiness/Wandering Eye/Cry of Pain for deep wound and a lovely chunk of AoE damage.

And I agree with you about playing in parties. The most number of humans I've ever been in a group with has been three, including me, and always people I know (ie. guildmates). I like taking my time and playing slowly and cautiously; I wish more people took the time to buff before battle. Like when I'm playing my paragon - I enter an area and immediately put up Aggressive Refrain, then refresh it with whichever chants or shouts I'm using. So I end up being a little bit behind everyone else, which ends up being a LOT behind after a while. Alas.

I'll have to try that skill set, some time. I would mention mine, but it's been a few months since I last logged into mine, and I hadn't even acquired any of his Elites yet, for still being in the fishing village from Nightfall (I'm blanking on the name at the moment).

I hate to admit it, but maybe some of those ultra-militaristic/lock-step guilds on WoWcrack have it right about enforcing certain codes of gameplay when you're doing serious runs, to make sure players are complementing each other and won't get left behind or run ahead. Then again, having to play or dictate like that would sap all the fun out of the game, for me at least.

Wow! The armor is gorgeous, but I'm enthralled by that scenery! I think I'm happy to play a game just for the scenery. I really should check out GuildWars! (Not that I have the spare time to start new games...) Do even lowbies get to see such beautiful places?

Well, if you start with Prophecies (the original game), these screencaps (http://bloogum.net/guildwars/pre.html) show the kind of scenery you'll see in the opening areas. Factions (Asian-themed) and Nightfall (African theme) are just as lovely - so, yes, you get amazing scenery everywhere, even in the starter areas.

It would be pretty iffy for me to start playing a new game, but I am definitely going to keep this one in mind for the future.

That's a nice feature! I recently started playing on the MUD where I do admin; I hadn't actually played there for five years. It's fun (and free), but obviously there is nothing beautiful to see.

Oh, never knew you played :D I haven’t in a while (say, months), but I really enjoyed the game when I did play — and yes, the characters are sexy :D

I didn't get hooked on Guild Wars nearly as much as I have with Age of Conan, but I have to agree that GW armour is beautiful. I love the realistic scenery in AOC but I wish I could take features from GW and add them to AOC, such as the armour sets and cape animation.

AOC has a real problem with armour; my main character is level 57 but looks like a level 10 character, I can never get a set that matches unless I want to spend the next 10 hours crafting (and mismatched armour looks totally fugly), and while there is elite 1500 armour in the game only the NPCs can wear it!

I do have some, I will post them up soon. I've been waiting until I got to Thunder River (which I did last night) before posting screenies because that's arguably the most beautiful area in the game.

And sorry I can't comment on your new armour, for some reason LJ scrapbook is blocked at work but not LJ itself. Hmm.

OMG!! I didn't realise how SEE-THROUGH the skirt on the red armour was!!

I really like the Elite Sunspear Armour, what colour did you dye it?? Yellowy Orange?

I am still puzzling over the lacy dwarven armour. I mean besides implying that the dwarves in Guild Wars are all randy little buggers, does the lace make any difference in the armour class. If this was table-top role-playing I'd penalize the character's armour class:)

Aha, randy and skillful:)
