John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin as his VP candidate seems inspired. She's managed to pull in the conservative Christian voters with her "God says shoot 'em and drill it" attitude, and being relatively young and pretty has managed to completely divert people from realising that McCain himself is more boring than unsweetened oats porridge.

Personally, I think she's pretty much the antithesis of everything I believe in, so I'm not keen on her. She's ignorant (but not stupid), devious, and inexperienced. If I were American, I'd be really nervous about having her so close to running the country.

Obama would have been better able to counter her with Hillary Clinton - but he chose first and if he'd picked Clinton, McCain would have picked someone other than Palin, and would now be hammering on the inexperience of the Democrat team.

Anyway, one thing about Palin that isn't bad is her interesting choice of children's names...and here's the
Sarah Palin Baby Name Generator

I got:

Claymore, if you were born to Sarah Palin, your name would be:

Can Lightning Palin

Unfortunately, of course, here in the UK 'a nice pair of bristols' is slang for 'big tits'. So Palin's choice of name for her daughter is somewhat unfortunate to the British audience...

Very nervous, yes.

If they get in, we might have World War 3 with the Russians after all...

Well, McCain/Palin might start a war by being aggressive, but Obama/Whoever might start a war by being the exact opposite of aggressive. As for me, I really don't see that many difference between the two groups as they will bend to the flow on the most voters, which is in the middle. I'm all in favor of None Of The Above 2008.

I think people outside of the US have no idea how loathed the Clinton's are. They're right there with the Bush family in that regard, just in different corners of the US. Selecting Hillary would have guaranteed an Obama failure in the general election even against clay figure like McCain. I do think he should have chosen someone a littel more charismatic then Biden even if Biden is one of the sharper folks out there.

On Palin. - She is inexperienced, then again Obama has only been in the Federal government for 4 years. Both parties usually see a shotrlived blip after a VP canidate is chosen and after there conventions. Lets wait until September ends before we grow concerned about her adding any value to this race. I'm more worried about her ability to rally people I don't agree with in the future then I am in 2008.

This is where we are today.

The election won’t be as close after another week or two, I just wanted to show you that its very different then many may perceive. Actually I expect the Democrats to win this year. It is their race to lose.

Don't forget that if he'd picked Clinton, the Republicans would be out in force with their old sexist playbook and be pulling out every trick in it, still talking about how "shrill" she is and how women who run for high office aren't allowed to notice or complain about sexism... which is true unless they are running as Republicans.
